Muscle vs. Fat

“Ladies and Gentlemen, let’s get ready to rumble!” The struggle between muscle and fat goes on 24/7, whether were asleep or awake, and looking around lately it seems that fat has been winning the battles, but will it win the war?

But first the tale of the tape…

According to the latest statistics, 51% of us Canucks are considered overweight, while 28% are considered obese, those who are over 100 pounds their ideal body weight are considered morbidly obese.  Unfortunately our neighbor’s to the south are faring much worse in the statistics game.

So what are muscle and fat anyway?

Consider muscle as the good guy,  sort of like the owner of your favorite watering hole (YOU), it helps us look good, attract the cuties and keep out the riffraff, in this case being a dude or dudette called FAT.

Now fat really hates muscle, it wants to fill your place with all his/hers lazy friends, sitting around drinking and eating everything in sight, a big time moocher.

Fat also wants to run muscle out of town, because muscle eats fat.

So now that you have a good idea of who they are, which side are you rooting for?

So why do we need muscle anyway?

Muscle burns fat for energy, this is why it’s so important to build and maintain lean muscle,  it’s our key weapon in winning the war on fat. It’s our WMD.

Muscle boosts metabolism, helping you burn fat day and night. Muscle increases testosterone levels, keeping aging at bay and revving our sex drives.

Muscle helps protect you from heart disease, arthritis, some cancers and depression.

Help muscle win the war on fat and you’ll gain much more than a trimmer waist line.

The key is to rev up your metabolism.

What is metabolism?

It’s the various chemical reactions that happen in the body 24/7 that keep us alive.

Think of metabolism as the bouncer at the door, ready to throw fat out of club you.

Who needs the moocher anyway?
